ALL ABOUT ME

Picture of my family

My name is Chris Morris and I was just hired as a Priority Teacher on call in Surrey and Abbotsford and I am just finishing up the Teacher Candidate program at the University of British Columbia. My teaching areas include Applied Design Skills and Technology and Media Arts. There are many reasons why I decided to enter the teaching profession. I grew up surrounded by teachers as both of my Grandparents were teachers, it was through them that I was able to see what the job entailed at an early age. I have always had a positive experience in school and I enjoyed being there.

I worked as a Teaching Assistant for nine years in the public secondary school system. It was during this time that I really gained confidence that I could make a difference in children’s lives. It was also during this time that I married my wife (who is also a teacher). The thing that was holding me back from getting my teaching degree was that I wasn’t sure what subject area I would want to teach. During my time as a TA I worked alongside a teacher who was heavily into Tech Ed, he pushed me to take the Technology Teaching Education program at BCIT. It was here that I found my calling.I know the difference that teachers can make on students lives (positive or negative). This is my driving force, I want students to leave my class having learned the subject area that I teach them but more importantly I want them to leave with a better understanding of who they are, and how to rationalize the world once they leave the bubble that is high school.
