Lab Statements

Lab 1: Studied and analyzed information about the GIS software by completing numerous tasks on “Getting Started with GIS” through the ESRI site while obtaining a certificate as well as using the knowledge gained to make reasonable judgments on the Environmental Impact Assessment for Garibaldi’s Ski Resort.

Lab 2: Managed data, worked with coordinate system manipulation in order to compare and contrast spatial models and gain a better understanding of how remote sensing works.

Lab 3: Performed geographical analysis, used statistics to calculate area and lengths as well as learned the concept of snapping parameters for more accurate positioning when determining the areas in Vancouver that were at risk of a potential Tsunami, including St. Paul’s Hospital.

Lab 4: Developed knowledge of working with Canadian Census Data, understanding quantitative data collection and became familiar in working with ratios to compare housing cost and income from one city to another while projecting the results onto maps.

Lab 5: Became comfortable in getting data from outside sources, organizing, filtering and mining the data in order to create a representation of an Environmental Impact Assessment for Garibaldi Park.
