The Story Behind the Question

“All of us do not have equal talent, but all of us should have an equal opportunity to develop those talents.”

– John F Kennedy

This quote by John F Kennedy is a good summarization of my inquiry problem statement.  My inquiry question focuses on motivation of all students regardless of their experiences and skill levels.  Not just motivating them, but how to get to perform to the best of their potential so that they feel motivated to continue to put their learning to use outside of school.  This statement came out of my personal high school experience where my learning needs were not catered to.  Teachers, especially in academic courses, focused heavily on catering their lessons and time towards the students who really understood the content and the students who absolutely did not understand anything, thus completely ignoring the average students, unless they went for extra help.  I was among the students that performed on an average level, however all teachers and my group of friends all said I was a very bright student but just wasn’t trying hard enough.  Now that I look back, I start to question if I was not trying hard enough or if the teachers were just not engaging me at a level that I needed to be engaged at.  My inquiry will be catered towards a Physical Education setting.
