LMS SITE INTRO MODULE REFLECTION
I will start with challenges. Having never worked with Moodle (or any LMS for that matter), this has been a somewhat intimidating, frustrating, and discouraging exercise. I have found Moodle to not be intuitive, and find myself wishing I had a tutor/colleague to ask live in-person questions to. I guess this is one of the inevitable times during an on-line program where one would prefer a live class.
One of my major challenges was to get my head around as an elementary school teacher and it seems to me that that Moodle lends itself more toward older students adults. I have tried to address this by focusing on a specific aspect of my class, where they are more likely to have time to sit at a computer and not working on a specific project/assignment – and that is at home with spelling practice. I am not sure this whether this will work, but it gives me something to work on where the point is to become familiar with and learn how to use Moodle, I think! It also forced me to do some more web research on those who have used Moodle successfully in elementary schools. I am compiling a list that I will post once complete.
In general, the on-line videos are helpful, but I still don’t have a full understanding of how it works. I am hoping that as I continue to work with it and cycle back through videos that it will become clearer.
UPDATE:
After struggling with both the concept and real-time creation of a Moodle course for my Gr. 4 students, I have decided to start over and instead construct a course based on one that I have taught to adult volunteers for several years. At this very novice stage of learning a LMS and within this timeframe, I realized that I will learn more about using Moodle for adult learners, which is more suitable to the platform, I believe.
