Beverley’s Blog

Beverley(https://blogs.ubc.ca/beverleycheng/)  made a blog post about Viral videos. She talked about how they went virial in a negative way and how that has changed their life and personal brand.

But honestly Rebecca’s song “Friday” is probably the worst song I have ever heard. Like come on a pre-schooler wrote that song I swear. What is even more amazing is the fact that Rebecca and her friends and family didn’t think this through.

Like how did they even come to a conclusion to upload this video.

You see 13 year old kids driving cars and going to a pretty sketchy party. I dont see her as a good role model to anyone kids who want to be a singer.  I totaly agree with Beverly with the fact that it is important to realize that with one wrong move, you can market yourself and your brand in a completely negative light.

Rebecca’s video is probably the worst mistake that her producer and herself will ever make in their lives.

Vernoika Dikoun’s Post

Vernoika Dikoun (https://blogs.ubc.ca/vdikun/) had a very interesting post that talked about Google’s logo change.

to

It is a very suttle difference but regardless very different Feel. I acutally never noticed the difference because Google always come up with cool google logos on their site when it is a special day.  Idisagree with Vernoika in the sense that google has taken risk by doing this because to be 100% honest I didnt know it even changed. The new logo definitely feels more modern and colour compared to the old one.

I like it!

Fashion: The Asian Way

I usually vista Korea during the summer times and when I go there I buy whole loads of clothes (More than I should). While in Canada I will usually buy a pair of pants of a jacket every year. This is because clothes in Canada are boring, expensive and quite frankly, it isnt very fun and exciting to shop.

What you see above is the most famous department store in Korea called DOOTA. Look how more aesthetically pleasing it is. It also isnt going to cost you an ARM and a LEG to buy em. Doota isnt the only department store that looks like this. There is APM, Shoptopia, Lotte, Hyundai Department, etc, etc.

Other reasons why I love to shop in Korea is because every floor is categorized to Shoes, Mens, Womens, Acessories and you got so many choices too.

They Also have pictures of their clothes on actual Humans so that you can see what it actually look like.

Sex sells

The old saying sex sells its probably the most effective marketing strategy ever. A prime example of a firm that uses sex appeal is the AXE body spray. Spray this stuff, you will be a chick magnet. However, it always bothered me why the uses of sexual ADs were mainly targeted towards men.

I have read an article that showed the brain activity of both men and women when shown sexual images. They were both identical, but the only the difference was that women unlike men were able to surpress their feelings.

If they can do this how it is every possible to target with a sex appeal?

This is what I think. Men are simple they see and they do, while women they need a way to stimulate their emotions. This is why on magazines (for women) they try to say things that might that might trigger how they feel. This could be marriage problems, weight, etc. I think it is alot easier for companies to make a sexual ad for men than women. It would be interesting to see future successful sexual ads for women.

Tablet War has begun!!!!

I think it is safe to say that the new Era of PCs aka. Tablets has begun. It first started with touch phones and then to smart phones. You combine a touch phone and a smart phone: A tablet. It began with Apple’s Ipad and then Samsung’s Galaxy tab and Blackberry Playbook and LG Slate and Motorola, LG so on and so forth. We will probably see the prices of these bad boys come down soon and everyone probably will be using them very very soon.

I personally love Samsung’s Galaxy Tab because it is not too big and not too small. It is just the right size between a small netbook and a touch smartphone. It does suck in regards to the screen size  but I think alot of manufacturers are standarizing the 7inch screen size.

We need to keep in mind that all the companies have similiar but different target markets. For example, RIM’s Playbook is targeted towards business professionals as well as day consumers, while Apple’s Ipad tries to target hip youngsters always with  new gadgets.

It will be very interesting to see how other companies other than Apple will do in this Market. Keep in mind that Apple had the first mover’s advantage with the biggest market share

WTF(?) Starbucks

I was walking on campus today and saw something that caught my attention. It was the new Starbucks cups…. wtf Starbucks???

I dont know if it is just me but I honestly don’t like the way it looks. I will probably grow on it, but it looks way to modern for me

There is just something about it that seems way too plain. However the green selves are much more impacting to the eyes than before. It might catch a lot of attention and might actually successfully penetrate getting more market share.

In my perspective, what the guys at Starbucks HQ were trying to do was to make the cup as simple as possible so that it looks enviromentally friendly. With the social trend of “Green”, they might have actually taken the right step, however, how consumers will react to it- only time will tell.

This girl obviously doesnt seem too excited by the new logo. She even says she likes the older logo better. I couldnt agree more. I think one other reason why I hate the new logo is beucase it doesnt have that Starbucks name like it used to have. Maybe that is why it seems so plain.

Apple’s Advertising Campaign and its Paradoy

Apple has a very unique way of introducing their products. What you might ask. Its the Macworld. I think I can safely say that the only company that has every pull off a product conference successfully is Apple. It has almost become their tradition and also a medium in which they display their product lines.

Apple’s conference is so successful that people have made a parody out of it. Look below

YouTube Preview Image

Its funny because it resembles the actual conference of Steve Jobs. The way he dressed, the way he talks about the features of the product and Lastly the “One more thing” line. HAHAHA

The parody in a nutshell is basically saying that Steve Jobs makes the little things make sound expensive and futuristic and that people are paying  way too much for it. Like it said “The richer you are, the cheaper it will feel”

Eat and Play

With the rise of big food restaurant chains going global, it is important that they ground themselves to the public effectively. One method in which these corporate giants been implementing to attract more customers are the “Eat and Play” Strategies. Prime example are the Tim Hortons’ “Roll up the rim to Win”  or McDonalds Monopoly game.

In my opinion these types of promotions are very effective. Not only do you get to eat a delicious meal (The reason why your at the restaurant in the first place), but also engage in a fun activity as a bonus. It makes customers excitied when making a purchase because it creates this anticipation of “what if I win”

This promotion in a way tricks our brain into thinking that we are getting more out of our buck. Think of it as buying a lottery, but even if you dont win, you end up with a coffee or Hot Chocolate. Even if you win, you still a winner for getting the drink.

To Be honest more companies should do this because  40 Toyota Matrix, 100 Panasonic 3D Tvs and over 27million food prizes isnt gonna cost companies an arm and a leg. It probably a small portion of their cost and when they do this they open up to new customers and also retain and gain loyal ones.

Apple NOM NOM NOM NOM…

The relationship between Steve Jobs and Apple is a special one. It is not because its a multi-billion dollar business, but because Steve Jobs is Apple and Apple is Steve Jobs.  You can think of Steve Jobs as the heart of the Apple.

A prime example of why he is the heart of apple can be justified by the share prices and the position of the company when he was fired.

Steve Jobs is a living legend and is one the greatest CEO of all time. This is because he is acutally one of the few CEOs that almost everyone recognize. He marketed himself really really well and that is super difficult. Look at Dell’s CEO Michael Dell. If I went up to a random person and asked “Do you know Dell’s CEO?” the majority would answer NO. This is why Apple was so successful and also why people envy Jobs.

All my thought goes to Jobs, his family and friends, wishing him to get better soon.

Rethink Hyundai(?)

Most North Americans think of Hyundai as cheap, ugly car. However after the ownership of KIA and their new K5 and K7 lineups, provoked the hyundai engineers to come up with 2012 Hyundai Sonata Y20 and 2012 Hyundai Azera. The New 2012 Hyundai Azera is what shines here.

When I saw this car, I was stunned….. Speechless… Hyundai? This car? Really???????

What is more amazing is the interior and all the new technology that is built in it.

Azera is  Hyundai’s answer to BMW’s 7-series and Mercedes E-class. After watching this youtube video you will understand why…

I found this Ad and the brand Hyundai to be quite interesting. Like I mentioned before Hyundai=cheap

But Azera just destroyed that thought. The ad showed class not just physically but also psychologically.

Hyundai’s marketing team did a faboulous job incorporating Classand Sex together. If I had the money I would honestly walk into a hyundai dealership right now and buy one for myself. This Car I tell you is a chick magnent. You don’t even have to go to the gym or anything… HAHAHAH

Hyundai really did it this time. They re-wrote the history of automative industry. To show you how much they changed here it is.
