I believe that there are a wide range of ways to assess visual art work. If I could, I would prefer to provide students with feedback both verbal and written throughout their art making process. In a graded environment, I believe the fairest option for the student is to reflect their self evaluation within the grades I provide them with. Depending on the grade and project, I always develop a rubric to fit the particular project, and often have students fill out a self evaluation of the rubric as well as my own, and average the marks.
