I believe art to be an integral part of learning about the self and exploring ideas of the world around us. Art transcends age, place and time. It is always relevant, and each day in the studio or classroom unfolds anew. Working with students across the spectrum from grades eight to twelve gave me a sense of pride and purpose adjusting and modifying projects to be personally relevant for each student. In particular, I had multiple students on the Autistic spectrum, and one student with one arm. Despite the physical and mental challenges, incorporating elements of the five senses into the classroom creates an atmosphere of fun and adventure.
