Within my practicum, in a grade nine art class, after going through a power point I asked my students if they had any questions before we moved on to the assignment. I got one or two questions, followed by a student asking if he could ask something slightly off topic. I said sure, and he proceeded to ask infront of the whole class why it is that I wear hats everyday. The question took me by surprise as it was not part of the lesson and somewhat personal. I felt that because I had given him permission to ask, I was obligated to answer, which I didn’t mind doing. I explained to my class that in my Jewish religion, once a woman is married, she is obligated to cover her hair. The students were surprised and interested, and I refocused the group back on task.
