She was a bright and kind <strong>grade two<\/strong> <strong>student<\/strong>\u00a0who really enjoyed learning about <strong>history<\/strong>. She had a fascination with the past and learning about different groups of people. Because of her vast knowledge about the past, she was often called upon to answer tough questions that the teacher asked in class. Some students admired her for it and would crowd around her whenever there was a partner activity. However, there was this group of girls who did not like the fact that she was the teacher&#8217;s favourite.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-112\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/girl.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/girl.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/girl-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/girl-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/girl-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/girl-1200x800.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The group of girls came up with a mean plan.<\/strong> They decided to turn every student in the class\u00a0against the little, kind girl so she would not have any friends. They <strong>threatened<\/strong> people, they <strong>ostracized<\/strong>\u00a0them until they agreed, and they even resorted to <strong>physical force<\/strong> sometimes! They were awfully determined. They used every method they could to make sure that no one would come close to the little girl&#8230; and it worked! In no time at all, <strong>no one wanted to be seen talking with the little girl<\/strong>. They avoided her as much as they could.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-111\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/alone.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/alone.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/alone-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/alone-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/alone-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/alone-1200x800.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The little girl did not know why her friends stopped speaking to her. She was finally getting the confidence to start speaking more English when her friends suddenly started ignoring\u00a0her. She was very confused and sad. Then she remembered that her teacher\u00a0always told her that words are magical, and that sometimes it is <strong>easier to write than to speak<\/strong>. So the little girl took out a piece of paper and started writing as neatly as she could a letter for her friends.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-110\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/write.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/write.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/write-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/write-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/write-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/write-1200x800.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In the letter, she had to use some <strong>Chinese characters as placeholders for\u00a0the English words<\/strong> because she did not know how to write them. But, she was determined to get her thoughts and feelings across to her friends, so she made sure to <strong>search up the words in a dictionary<\/strong> and write down their English counterparts &#8211; just like how her teacher showed her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-109\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/dictionary.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/dictionary.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/dictionary-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/dictionary-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/dictionary-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/dictionary-1200x800.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Within a few days, she was able to complete her letter after <strong>many revisions and a final edit<\/strong>. She had written a very heartfelt letter, and when she showed it to her friends, they apologized and explained what happened and how they were too scared of the mean group of girls to do anything. However, they realized that it wasn&#8217;t right nor fair for the little girl to suffer all alone, so they decided to <strong>tell the teacher<\/strong> so something like this will not happen again to another innocent, little, and kind girl.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-108\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/friends.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"626\" height=\"417\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/friends.jpg 626w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/friends-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 626px) 100vw, 626px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">After hearing the story, the <strong>teacher took action<\/strong> and a <strong>class meeting<\/strong> was held. Everyone was very respectful and reflected on their actions. The <strong>group of girls apologized<\/strong> for their behaviour and action, and decided to form an <strong>Anti-Bullying Task Force<\/strong> with the little girl and her friends. They decided to use this Task Force to help other students who are getting bullied and teach them what to do.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-107\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/taskfroce.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"626\" height=\"417\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/taskfroce.jpg 626w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msmi\/files\/2017\/02\/taskfroce-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 626px) 100vw, 626px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Anti-Bullying Task Force was so successful that they had to <strong>advertise<\/strong> for more people to help them! Everyone in the Task Force got involved and some made <strong>posters using a software program on the computer<\/strong>.
