What happens when an aspect of our life is breaking down, not fitting together quite right or missing a scew? What do we do to fix these problems? My hope is that we have learned the skills and been given the tools to find a solution. The types of problems I am referring to are the ones that require critical and creative thinking, <span style=\"color: #262626;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i>Creativity in the Classroom: Schools of Curious Delight<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><i> <\/i>gives the following example &#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><i>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 &#8220;At 19, Jean was homeles and a senior in high school. One cold evening he thought<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><i>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0that a warm space inside the school would be a more appealing sleeping place than<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><i>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0any he could see. Getting into the building was no problem, but onces he was inside<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><i>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 a motion detector would make him immediately detectable to the guard on the floor <\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><i>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 below. Juan entered a storage room and carefully dislodged a bile of baseball bats. <\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><i>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0In the ensuing commotion, he located a comfortable sleeping place. The guard <\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><i>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0attributed the motion detector&#8217;s outburtst to the falling bats, and Juan slept until <\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><i>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0morning.\u201d <\/i>(Starko, 2014).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-84 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msoreziaksblog\/files\/2016\/02\/ps-ideal-300x300.png\" alt=\"ps-ideal\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msoreziaksblog\/files\/2016\/02\/ps-ideal-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msoreziaksblog\/files\/2016\/02\/ps-ideal-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msoreziaksblog\/files\/2016\/02\/ps-ideal-1024x1019.png 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msoreziaksblog\/files\/2016\/02\/ps-ideal-624x621.png 624w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/msoreziaksblog\/files\/2016\/02\/ps-ideal.png 2032w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Juan was in a difficult situation and used problem solving skills to solve his problem. Creativity<br \/>\ndoes not only refer to art, music, dance. Being able to problem solve using creativity is an important life skill.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Teaching our students how to problem solve in a creative way is a lesson they will keep with them forever.
