TELL-3C stands for Teaching English Language Learners through Cross-Curricular Case-Based Inquiry. This cohort prepares future educators to work effectively with English Language Learner (ELL) students using a problem-solving and inquiry based approach. Content knowledge and critical thinking are used together with real world scenarios to guide teacher candidates to “develop inquiries into pedagogy, curriculum, and the profession of teaching”. This cohort also focuses on the use of multi-modal ways of teaching and collaboration among teachers, students, and the community.

I initially enrolled in this cohort because I have a passion for inclusive and inquiry-based teaching. I believe that educators can use a variety of teaching strategies to adapt to and meet the needs of ELL students, such as using the first language in the classroom, using technology, and inquiry/student-centered learning. Throughout the past year, being in this cohort has inspired me and my teaching philosophy.
In the TELL-3C cohort, we worked collaboratively through 11 different cases, each on a biweekly cycle of research, inquiry, presentation, and reflection. For each case, I worked with my colleagues to create a Case Research Package on a particular issue, present it to the rest of the cohort, and then complete a Synthesis of my learning.
