I am part of the Teaching English Language Learners (TELL-3C) cohort, which focuses on meeting and adapting to the needs of ELL students through inquiry, cross-curricular lessons, and differentiation. I have successfully completed my practicum in a grade 4 classroom in East Vancouver, in a culturally and linguistically diverse school. My experiences throughout my practicum have further affirmed my passion for teaching.

Throughout the year, we have focused on creating classroom environments that are culturally responsive, and where each student is respected and cared for. As an educator, I believe in creating a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment by promoting inquiry, critical thinking, and collaboration among my students. I strongly believe in student-centered learning, where students feel inspired to wonder and learn, both in and outside of the classroom. I was able to implement this during my practicum by engaging students with the local and global communities, and showing them they can make a difference. I also believe it is important to connect to the community through the First Peoples Principles of Learning and ways of teaching. I implemented this during my practicum by encouraging students to think about various cultural perspectives, inviting an Elder from a First Nations community to share stories with the class, and engaging my students with nature. I also differentiated my lessons through a multi modal approach to ensure all students are able to learn and contribute to the classroom community. I consider myself to be a lifelong learner, and I strive to instill this passion in my students as well. Through place-based learning and collaborative community connections, I hope to guide students to be reflective, compassionate, and always curious.

Every child has the right to succeed, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, gender identity or socioeconomic status.
