Is there <\/em><\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><em>a component of this issue, int<\/em><\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><em>erest, or opportunity that relates to the use of digital technologies?<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As students become more proficient in using technology to connect, collaborate, research, and create, I anticipate the need for teaching students to be responsible digital citizens. The online world can be an invaluable learning tool for students, but it is necessary to be aware that everything they see may not be as it seems. I want to teach students to be critical and reflective thinkers in what they consume and produce online.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">What curriculum is related to this issue, interest or opportunity? What pedagogy might be useful for fostering learners&#8217; engagement and excitement?<\/span> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the BC curriculum, the <a href=\"https:\/\/curriculum.gov.bc.ca\/competencies\">Core Competencies of Critical Thinking, Personal Awareness and Responsibility, and Social Awareness and Responsibly<\/a> relate to this issue. There are also topics in the grade 4-12 Physical and Health Education and grade 4-12 Language Arts curricular competencies that pertain to this issue. Some students do not have access to any device at home. When we moved to online learning during Covid, the school lent out iPads for students, but they had to be returned when we returned to in-class learning.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Digital Portfolios:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In my school district we are moving away from letter grades and towards student competency scales. Therefore, rather than presenting only a summative assessment at the end of the term, I think it is important to provide ongoing, formative assessment\/feedback throughout the school year. This can be shared with parents through digital portfolios such as VSB Blueprint, Fresh Grade, Class Dojo, and more.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Social Media in the Classroom:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I would like to explore the use of social media platforms, such as Twitter or Pinterest to enrich student learning, build connections, and have students share their learning in a safe and respectful way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Issue, Personal Interest, or Opportunity Identification and Keyword Generator What issues, interests, or opportunities do you anticipate arising in your teaching in the near future?
