My teaching philosophy has always been based on academic success, but I believe that success can only be possible when students are happy, healthy, and having fun. The introduction of Social and Emotional Learning into my portfolio has cemented the connections that exist between academic success and achievement with personal skills, self-confidence, and a sense of self-worth. Students who are connected and enjoy school are more likely to succeed in academic pursuits, but are also less likely to engage in risky behaviour.
I want to meet the individual needs of my students in an equitable manner, using a variety of teaching methods along with adaptations and modifications. I aim to be a caring teacher who treats all students and colleagues with respect and dignity. The promotion of interpersonal skills and strong student-teacher relationships built on trust is my primary goal. With the development of such relationships, I hope to be able to share my knowledge with my students and spark creativity and interest in academic pursuits.
I am a self-prescribed perpetual student who craves knowledge and development. I am passionate about Professional Development and seek to attend workshops and seminars whenever possible. Part of the learning process includes reflection and I aim to be a reflective practitioner. I try to learn from challenges and see mistakes not as errors, but as possibilities to learn from.
