May 8: Getting set up

This morning, we were greeted by cloudy sky, diamond dust precipitation and a halo, which stayed on most of the day.

We spent the morning carrying boxes to our field site. With 8 research groups participating in this experiment, we have 45 boxes of equipment to shuttle. Some went inside the tent, and those containing sample canisters stayed outside. We did not quite finish setting up, but we are pretty close.

We used the snowmobile to drive most of the way, but since we want to sample the atmosphere, we try to keep things clean around the sampling site, and shuttled things manually for the last little bit, not without effort! Bluee wanted to show us how to harness up to pull the sled, but he had to admit he was a bit too small for the task…

At the end of the day, we did some bear safety practices. We have these little bangers that are quite handy, in addition to a shotgun and a rifle, if things ever get serious.
