May 12: Started sampling

Big news today. We have been here for 6 days, and we are finally starting sampling. Etienne, Tessa and Nerilie finished drilling the B hole (also known as “Mountain View”) yesterday afternoon. Then, we moved the drill, the large white tent, and all the drilling equipment next to our yellow tent of “Mountain Side”. And this morning, we finished setting up. Tessa worked hard to dig the trench, Etienne settled and levelled the drill, Nerilie prepared the core logging table, and then, we could start! We drilled 3m, and inserted the firn air sampling system into the hole. We filled out first set of air canisters, and it all worked very smoothly. It feels good to progress on our objective.
