Course Site

My Moodle site is called the English 10 Blended Classroom English 10 Blended Classroom .

At the beginning, I had no experience with Moodle or with using Moodle as a student. I felt overwhelmed with the idea of having to create my own Moodle design. With the eLearning Toolkit, I started to build my site. I tried to conquer each step with patience and at times I did get frustrated. However, I did take a look at the resources I could find online to help me out. Eventually, I created a site that I would use for one of my own classes.

A task that helped build my confidence was when I created my Chrysalids quiz. There were multiple steps in this process which allowed me learn how to manoeuvre around the site. The task that caused the most trouble and thinking was when I had to pre-program a module to come out on a later date. This task made me research online for all the possible ways. It helped me learn about the different Moodle versions, but also how it differed from other LMS sites. The discussions on Moodle.com were a great resource, as many other designers also struggled with the same idea. In the end, I pre-programmed the release of my module by closing the “eye”. When I want to release this module in the future, I will open the “eye” for my students to be able to see it.

A task that I enjoyed was creating my GUI splashpage. I had never created one before, and I was excited when I was actually able to get the links to work. I decided to keep the uniform look of the images and put at the top of each module too. This allows for students to recognize my links easily. Another task that I enjoyed was creating my modules. I had more than two modules because it seemed more realistic for my course. In the future, I would add more modules to complete the site. I like how each module is set up just like a unit in a f2f classroom. Therefore, I think students could easily transition to using this site.

A task that I used quite a bit was the discussion forums. I have at least one discussion forum in each module. I think this is one of the integral parts of the site, as I tried to not create a site that would be a resource for students to get reading material. Instead, I used the forums to help build community and reflection. For the last task, I thought I would have to create different forums for selective groups. However, after researching online, I found out that I could program the site by creating groups in the settings. Then, I could create one discussion forum and have it be designated for the separate groups that I made.

Overall, I feel like I have created a sophisticated site that is user friendly and engaging. I feel that I would use this site in the future, and my students will like to take part in it. Now that I look at my Moodle site, I cannot believe that I created it and how successful I was!
