This artifact is from ETEC 510: Design of Technology-Supported Learning Environments. You basically had to take something that you currently use in your daily life, and review its design elements. I chose to use the Rediker LMS my school was using, as I have to admit I didn’t really fully enjoy using it. I have to admit I am not overly proud of this artifact but it did teach me never to use the highlight cursor effect in Camtasia.

Module Introduction for Exploring the Big Ideas
This was another artifact from ETEC 510. Not much to say other than it took a ridiculous amount of time to create due to the small boxes! It does show a pretty good knowledge of PowerPoint (and that I have a good amount of patience to create it!).
Psychological approaches to Instruction and Learning
This is another artifact from ETEC 512, and it is no coincidence that the majority of my artifacts are derived from courses that allowed students to go beyond the scholarly essay, and into the world of multimedia submissions. This artifact is a simple overview / concept map of various psychological approaches to instruction and learning. I enjoyed creating this artifact and found it to be a very good reflective tool to look at what I learnt, and highlight things that resonated with me. I truly thank all the instructional designers for UBC that allowed me to “think outside the box” and apply my learning in ways that are more meaningful.
Standardized Data Collection
This is another artifact from ETEC 565M on something I found to be very important, which is standardized data collection. This topic has become increasingly relevant to me as I am forced into using various learning management systems, but still finding it a very manual process transferring grades from blended applications (such as google quiz) to the gradebook of the learning management system (in my case rediker, which does not support xAPI/Scorn). As more and more work is done online, the need to standardize data collection in a virtual marksheet will become increasingly important, even in my own case using Google Quiz for the majority of my formative assessments I would love for the results (after marked) to go directly into the gradebook.
The evolution of the presentation
This is the final artifact from ETEC 540, where I looked at the evolution of the presentation (a topic very close to my heart, as I do all my lesson planning in PowerPoint). Looking back, this really did make me realize that it isn’t always the content of the course that makes it useful, but the flexibility in the assessments (actually allowing students to use their creativity to relay back what they know to you). I really enjoyed researching this topic, and found it incredibly interesting how much the past does influence the future (the original slide show projectors, i.e. square little films with some basic images/text on them is still how current presentation applications are structured!). Obviously, the content has evolved but the structure still remains.
The evolution of text in collaboration
This artifact is a prime example of my minds desire to bring application to theory. This again, was from ETEC 540, a course I struggled with the content but the professor’s choice of assessments really took me out of “shock” and into “bargaining”. Due to my technology background I kept trying to search for things to write about that would interest me and be somewhat applicable to the course. The result, was this assessment which was more a combination of technologies, rather than theory. I really enjoyed making this artifact as it was during the time I was experimenting with the slide master template in PowerPoint and this was a way to apply that knowledge into one of my MET courses.
