“What’s marketing?” Tamar raised that question to everyone in class. We all have different subjective ideas on what marketing means to us. Personally, I think it’s an arts of satisfying people’s wants and needs!
Speaking of wants and needs, it’s true that there’s always a grey area between the two. Sometimes you think you need something, but it’s actually an illusion created by your longing as your neighbor owns a new product. A lot of people go bankrupt because they can’t distinguish the two and become a victim of new trends.
I bet many times you’d question yourself “Why would they sell these products?! They are ridiculously useless!” Well, sometimes marketers think the other way around. They create products first, and then use marketing strategies to convince customers to WANT them. One time, I visited a friend and she showed me her brand new iPad. She admitted that she used to think iPad was completely a redundant toy. It’s not as high tech as laptops nor as convenient as cellphones. However, after using it for a while, she completely fell in love with it!
