2011 Summer Program
Building on the lessons learned from successful programs in 2004, 2006, and 2008 The Peace it Together Society is about to embark on its fourth program for Palestinian, Israeli and Canadian youths. The 2011 program one will take place at UBC in partnership with the President’s and Vice President’s Offices.
From July 7 to August 4, 2011 three delegations of 10 Palestinian, 10 Israeli, and 10 Canadian university students will gather at UBC for an extraordinary dialogue and filmmaking experience. After professional facilitators guide the students to break down barriers through dialogue and creative exercises, skilled film mentors will work with small tri-cultural groups to create short films about the conflict.
We will then work with the youth of each delegation to empower others in their community to engage in peace-building. We want you input on what that might look like in your community.
About Peace it Together:
The Peace it Together Society, has pioneered the process of empowering youth to promote peace through dialogue, filmmaking and multi-media. The program in 2006 and 2008 demonstrated the viability and success of using filmmaking as a tool to break down the social and psychological boundaries and to build understanding between the two sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We will work with highly qualified facilitators and filmmaking mentors, some of whom have worked with Peace it Together in the past.
Since the 2006 program, the Peace It Together Society has been awarded the City of Vancouver’s Cultural Harmony Award and the B.C. Human Rights Coalition and the United Nations Association of Vancouver’s Renate Shearer Memorial Award. The 15 Peace it Together films have been screened at over 15 film festivals, winning awards at, at least four. Additionally, there has been a great deal of media coverage including an article in the New York Times, an 11-minute news piece on CBC’s Sunday Report, and an article in the July 2007 Reader’s Digest.
To watch the films, and for more information and media coverage please see the Peace it Together website.
