My mother became a stay at home mom when my brother and I were little and as the years flew by she began develop a hobby of arts and crafts. For the past 25 years she has been decorating our home with her handmade art-our home has been compared to wonderland by friends and family! She is extremely talented and as a result her creativity has had a major influence on how I approach teaching and learning. Her creativity helped me realize that school doesn’t have to be serious all the time, but it can be fun, innovative and creative as well. In fact as I learned during my practicum the influence of creativity in lessons dramatically increase the level of engagement in the students. While it requires a lot of effort on the teacher’s part, I quickly noticed during my practicum students are very perceptive, they can see and thus appreciate when a teacher puts in a lot of effort almost every lesson.
