Community Field Experience

Royal BC Museum

In the spring of 2014 I had the amazing opportunity to work as an interim in the learning department of the Royal BC Museum in Victoria, BC for three weeks. My time at the museum helped me develop my own personal understanding of the meaning of education; I believe education happens beyond the walls of a traditional classroom. The term education merely represents a mask for the many faces it has; teaching and learning can happen anywhere at any time. Museums, like the Royal BC Museum are just one of those faces behind the mask.

If you would like to learn more about my experiences and how they helped further my development as an educator I encourage you to visit and browse a weekly blog I created to reflect on my experiences both in and out of the museum.

  1. The Community Field Experience greatly enriched my understanding and supported my academic growth. Engaging with real-world situations deepened my insights, especially when writing military essays. These experiences provided valuable context and practical knowledge that helped with studies, making complex topics easier to grasp. Overall, it was a rewarding opportunity that strengthened both my critical thinking and research skills.
