About Us

With more and more residents leaving the countryside in search of higher incomes within urban areas, the ongoing mass of rural migrants have produced a situation of overpopulation in Nairobi. This increasing migration and inability of infrastructure development to compete with the rate of growth has forced much of the population on to informal settlements. Prominently, the issue of poor sanitation is affecting the large population in these slums, leading to adverse health effects and major social issues within its female residents. Our interest in sanitation infrastructure led us to further investigation on this topic. We believe that it is a basic need that everyone around the globe should have readily available and we strive to educate ourselves and our audience on its incredible value. Through our research we have developed a case study on the issue of improper sanitation within Kibera and its detrimental effects, with a fundamental focus on women. By exploring various facets of women’s health, safety in this urban context we will unveil what dangers female residents of the slum face day to day and most importantly what we have gained as a result of our research and will consider as global citizens.
