Global Context

The issues of inadequate sanitation is a worldwide phenomenon in various locations in the Global South and not just unique to Kibera. The importance of education is a primary lesson and take-away, as greater awareness on the significance of maintaining proper cleanliness in all dimensions of life will impede the many disastrous health risks that vulnerable groups like women are currently facing. Girls are not afforded this opportunity, as examined, which has proven to debilitate the modernization of urban centres like Kibera.
Societal attitudes play an important role in strengthening the status of women and girls globally. This is incredibly challenging to revolutionize despite mass modernization in other realms. Economic factors have contributed greatly to the hardships faced by those living in poverty as developed in our case study. Survival is a top concern as many women in urban centres similar to Kibera such as Delhi, as they may not expect to live long lives due the mass poverty that engulfs them.
