What I Do
I am in the Teaching English Language Learning Through a Cross-Curricular Case-Based Inquiry Approach (TELL–3C) Cohort at UBC, where I have learned to teach children in K-7, with a special focus on helping students who are English Language Learners, refugee students, and minority students. Through this program, I received a practicum opportunity at Dr. H. N. MacCorkindale Elementary, where I taught a very diverse class of grade 3 students and fell even more in love with my work.
I also have experience as a Special Education Assistant from working at the Mediated Learning Academy in Coquitlam for one year. During this time, I worked with children with Autism that manifested in various ways, such as behavioural issues, a lack of social awareness, and issues with communication. I also worked with students with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Down Syndrome, among other learning disabilities.
Additionally, I have experience with Applied Behaviour Analysis through working as a Behaviour Interventionist with a 10 year old child with Autism.
All my significant learning experiences have led to my becoming the teacher that I am today. You can read my educational philosophy, where I speak more on how these experiences have shaped me, here.
