Marine protected areas are a key aspect of ocean conservation. I developed this haiku with this thought in mind. That when we give our ocean a space and chance to recover from human mediated pressures, its natural ability to recover will in turn support a new flourishment of life that is sustainable and equitable for all people, wildlife and plants alike. Canada has committed to 30 by 30 – protecting 30 percent of its lands and waters by 2030. This is an ambitious goal but incredibly substantial if it can be followed through.
