Re: Technical Writer position
Dear Classmates,
Please accept this letter to be considered part of your Winter 2022 Technical Writing team. My experience in customer service, office administration, and as an entrepreneur, along with my extensive travel portfolio, will bring a diverse perspective to team projects. Currently, I am a third-year student in Creative Writing and Political Science, where I immerse in intensive writing and research. I have learnt to recognize a good story and deliver it effectively to its intended audience. Other tools I have developed are peer editing, returning critical feedback, and respecting hard deadlines. By joining your team, I hope to bring these traits into the writing room and work with new writers to put forth projects that highlight our strengths while building upon our areas of weaknesses.
My time spent at CIBC introduced me to a high standard of customer service. As a Business Support Officer and customers’ first point of contact, my job was to find solutions that work. A complex yet straightforward skill that I learned during this time was listening and responding. I know to be patient, analytical, and a practical problem solver. This simple tool has followed me into many aspects of my career. Firstly, I progressed from a hostess to a district marketing manager leading a team of 100 employees to eventually founding a start-up in the talent industry. Today, it is essential to my writing. As a copywriter, I work to deliver an intentional and compelling copy.
Finally, my solo travels to 20+ countries will show that I am adaptable, goal-oriented, and determined. My time as Miss Teen Toronto displays leadership and public speaking. It is these traits that I will bring to each collaboration.
Some of my other areas of expertise include:
- People management
- Team building
- Content creation
- Marketing
Some areas I intend to build on:
- Knowing the appropriate time to take creative liberties in writing
- Reduce writer’s block by planning accordingly
- Gain confidence in writing my contributions
My learning philosophy is that the quicker you fail, the faster you learn. So instead of focusing on getting it right all the time, focus on getting it done. Then, once errors become clear, revisions are made.
Thank you for considering my application. I am looking forward to working with you.
Regards,
Neola Oleta
