The Garry Project aims to explore and report on the question:<\/p>\n

“What does it take for two people, with no formal knowledge of ecology, to restore a degraded Garry Oak ecosystem existing on private land?”<\/em><\/p>\n

The methodological framework (i.e. the plan) is skeletal and will evolve as progress is made. Its primary intent is two-fold:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. to enable learning, and the application of what is learned, as the project progresses;<\/li>\n
  2. to create a detail record of an example project, \u00a0thereby encouraging those with no experience to take on an ecosystem restoration project.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The project plan consists of three phases:<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Perform an informal literature review, then define and prepare the restoration area.<\/li>\n
      2. Identify the community of plants that are part of a healthy Garry Oak Meadow ecosystem. Plant these natives in the restoration area and support the plant community until it is established.<\/li>\n
      3. Maintain the thriving mature Garry Oak Meadow.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Progress, observations, and tentative conclusions are recorded in each phase of the project. It is anticipated that project results will offer useful information and resources to those considering a similar project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
