This course is focused on the study of principles regarding written and online communications used in business and professional settings. The key topics studied in this course related to the creation of abstracts, proposals, applications, reports, correspondence and online communications: emails, texts, Web Folio and networking.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The course is taught in an online educational format by Dr. Erika Paterson. The course is intended to be taken by undergraduate students currently in commerce, science, education, and health sciences programs at UBC. The course is divided into four main modules that teach the overall major course purposes. The six main purposes of the course are listed below:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">an introduction to the distinctive elements of writing in business, professional, and technical uses through the use of course readings and other activities;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">a platform to practice and improve strategies and techniques specific to this type of writing style;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">an online platform to connect and interact with classmates to discuss the course material;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">to raise awareness of the extensive resources offered by UBC&#8217;s Career Services department;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">to teach us how to develop and format a multi-faceted online Web Folio. This Web Folio will consist of a Linkedin profile and a professional website;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">to enable reflection regarding our proficiency in writing and self-editing capabilities.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>My Expectations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">My expectations from this course are that it will be able to improve my professional writing style. As I have already taken two courses in business communication, I am seeking to build upon my existing foundation and become an even stronger writer. The modules and purposes of this course align with me as I will be graduating this May.
