I spent some time looking at how my classmates explained their selection of songs for our Golden Record curation. As noted above, I chose mine by trying to include as many cultures as possible and based on the emotion the songs evoked in me.

Chris had similar choices to me and strove to include as many cultures as possible. However, with this, he also excluded European composers as their nationalities were involved in the colonial erasure of indigenous cultures. Due to Canada’s current situation, I think this was a wise and fair decision. While we should not erase our history, we must learn from it and teach our children and future generations the importance of inclusion, diversity, and equity.
