Academics

Natural Resources Conservation is the study of how to manage and sustain all types of ecosystems and resources, including forests, aquatics and oceans, agriculture and energy. The Global Perspectives major takes an interdisciplinary approach that requires courses from a variety of categories such as globalization, energy policy, Indigenous studies, language courses, and mandatory international experience.

I began my time at UBC in Kinesiology and knew pretty early on that I did not want to stay. I liked biology, but I wanted to do something that I was passionate about. I had this dream of what it could look like if I could combine my love for working with people, but also passion for understanding and protecting the environment together in a career. I did not think that such a thing could exist and even if it did, there were no programs to educate me on that sort of thing. That was until I found the Conservation program in Forestry. I knew immediately that was where I was supposed to be. Switching to Forestry and engaging with the Global Perspectives courses opened my eyes to the fact that not only was this connection with the environment and people a real thing, but it was even more intense and important than I could ever have imagined.
