comment on “Returns a $10 billion pain”

There are more and more people returning good to the sellers these day. The article shows that 5 to 30 percent of sale are eaten up by retuning good. Returning good will destroy the relationship between sellers and customers, and the cost to manage return goods are expensive. However, extend the deadline of refund will encourage customer to come back and buy more good. It can also improve the quality of the goods according to the feedback of customers.

In my opinion, company should not introduce the refund policy that allow customer returning good after so many days. Most of the customers are very excited to get a new product, so they don’t want to refund unless the quality is too poor to be used.  Having a refund experience is not so happy. It is disappointed to both buyers and sellers. Therefore, if there is quality problem, costumers will find out before buying this product or after using the product for a few days. It won’t take so long for buyers to find out the problem and have a refund. There is some buyers, however, taking advantage of the returning policy to use this product for some special occasion then return the good to suppliers. It is like the customers rent the product for a few days then return it back without paying a cent. This is so unfair to the sellers and the sellers become the victim.

In conclusion, there is not necessary to extend the deadline of refunding and it will cause more loss to the company.

Comment on “Online shopping forces malls to evolve to keep customers coming back”

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/industry-news/marketing/online-shopping-forces-malls-to-evolve-and-keep-customers-coming-back/article20777568/

These days, with the increasing growth of technology, online shopping are more and more popular. Indeed, there are a lot of advantages of shopping at home with a computer. It is convenience. You don’t have to go outside. You can just sitting in the couch and the Courier will deliver your good to your place. Because of that, many Local mall are in danger of disappearing. Many malls are introducing entertainment  component into the malls to be more attractive, and plan to Repurpose space to satisfy people’s needs and, all of them are costly.

Online shopping definitely reform the business, but there are also many things that Malls should take advantage of. Shopping with friends is a good way to strengthen relationship between them. You can exchange your view of fashion with each other; you can share what’s going on in your life; You can complain about your annoying boss…… I think many people would like to go shopping with someone close to us. The purpose of shopping is not buying thing, but communicate with others. Therefore, only introduce the clothing shop is not enough. We can think about introducing cinema, Karaoke, and some special cafeteria. In that case, Malls not only increase revenue but also appeal more customers to consume.  It is also a good way to raise the position in customers’ mind. People are more willing to consume in this place because they have wide range of way to have fun.

Sometime a specific store with good reputation could have driving effect to the whole mall. After people get what they want from that store, they might be willing to spend a little more time on wandering around the whole center. Therefore there is another way to gain popularity is to introduce the most fashion, most popular brand into the center.

CVS Vows to Quit Selling Tobacco Products

Comment:

Sometime a company can have both business profit and business ethic, Just like CVS. CVS decided to stop selling cigarettes and other tobacco products in order to decrease the rate of smoking although this decision may lead to a loss of $2 billions. A large majority of people agree with this idea and CVS Itself also encourage other companies to imitate such an action since it can actually reduce smoking by reducing the availability of cigarettes. Does it mean that the CVS company will suffer from loss of sales forever? The answer is no. The loss of $2 billions does not matter comparing with $123 billion of total profit of sales. Besides, CVS provide smoking cessation product which will cover the deficit. It turns out CVS company not only maximize its profit but also do good to the society. Such company not only is a profitable company, but also a virtuous company.

It is not so hard to become a good company. A good company mean it will satisfy the need of all the stakeholders as much as possible without breaking the rules or violating the standard of moral. However, companies like nestle, which pumping the water from a well without paying a cents then sell it back to citizen, is more like they are scarifying the business reputation for profit because many people are complaining about that. In some ways, CVS did a great job of maintaining the reputation of the company and maximize the profit. It is a great model of being a good company.
