{"id":14,"date":"2025-01-25T09:54:21","date_gmt":"2025-01-25T16:54:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/oconnell\/?p=14"},"modified":"2025-04-25T08:38:48","modified_gmt":"2025-04-25T15:38:48","slug":"radiology-post-processing-videos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/oconnell\/2025\/01\/25\/radiology-post-processing-videos\/","title":{"rendered":"Radiology Post-processing Videos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A while ago, I made 14 videos about post-processing software for radiology applications.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-15\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/oconnell\/files\/2025\/01\/postprocessing_screenshot-300x239.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/oconnell\/files\/2025\/01\/postprocessing_screenshot-300x239.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/oconnell\/files\/2025\/01\/postprocessing_screenshot-1024x817.png 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/oconnell\/files\/2025\/01\/postprocessing_screenshot-768x612.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/oconnell\/files\/2025\/01\/postprocessing_screenshot-1536x1225.png 1536w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/oconnell\/files\/2025\/01\/postprocessing_screenshot-2048x1633.png 2048w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/oconnell\/files\/2025\/01\/postprocessing_screenshot-624x498.png 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What is post-processing software, you ask? \u00a0Here&#8217;s a bit of background:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Those pretty 3-D images from medical imaging studies aren&#8217;t usually automatically made when a patient gets imaged; they have to be created, and one way to do it is by using post-processing software on a dedicated workstation by the radiologist.<\/li>\n<li>Various vendors (Siemens, Philips, GE, etc) all have post-processing software platforms<\/li>\n<li>Post-processing is about more than just creating 3-D images; they can be used for many tasks, from performing quantitative image analysis, body part segmentation, specialized measurements, and even for creating .STL files for 3-D printing.<\/li>\n<li>These platforms definitely fall into what I think of as &#8216;expert software&#8217;; they&#8217;re not particularly easy to use because they have so many features and the tasks they perform are so complex, thus the videos to show a bit of the &#8216;art of the possible&#8217;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>My goal of creating these videos is to provide a preview of a small number of the post-processing software platforms available, and some of the things that you can do with them. \u00a0Like all things software-related, these videos are just a &#8216;snapshot in time&#8217; of the software available to me at the time I made the videos. \u00a0I am sure that many if not all of these software packages are being continually improved by their manufacturers. \u00a0The goal here is not so much to show the software\u00a0<em>per se<\/em> but rather to show a sampling of what can be done with them.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the link to the UBC Vimeo site where the videos are hosted: <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/showcase\/6277385\">https:\/\/vimeo.com\/showcase\/6277385<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A while ago, I made 14 videos about post-processing software for radiology applications.
