The purpose of this website is to exercise spatial analysis to identify areas suitable for establishing wind farms in China. Based on the requirements of wind turbines, we have identified the Eastern coastline of China as an area with exceptional potential. For this project, we have prepared protected ecosystems, submarine cables and pipelines, gas and oil fields, a shapefile of China, wind speed values, bathymetry, as well as a distance to the coast raster. With these data, we will perform a Multi-Criteria Evaluation (MCE) where all factors will be normalized through reclassification and through a linear fuzzy membership to a consistent scale and weighted according to their importance using the Analytical Hierarchy Process. They will then be overlaid with each other as well that we will apply constraints to the data based on current regulations.
Our results would highlight areas that are suitable for establishing wind farms. We will also conduct a sensitivity analysis based on equal weights to illustrate how different weights can affect the results.
