“Ever since we ran out of arable land, food is oil. Every single calorie we eat is backed by at least a calorie of oil.” – Richard Manning
What do human being have in common with machines? Well, we both cannot survive without oil. Machines run on oil, and we use oil to process, deliver and package our food. Oil plays a role in nearly every calorie I consume. This blog is a realization towards the shocking over dependence of oil in our life. I have conducted a study over the role oil plays in my diet over 24 hours.
“The soil is as rich in energy as an oil well”. – Manning
This sentence does an excellent job in summarizing the importation of my meals. Currently, I am in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (U.A.E). The U.A.E is well known as a country in the Middle East with abundance in oil. However, its climatic conditions make the U.A.E impractical for growing many crops. As a result, crops are imported while oil is exported. Oil plays a much larger role in my diet than one would expect.
This blog contains pages representing each of my meal on an ordinary day and the role fossil fuels play in my diet.
