Shawerma Ingredients:
Arabian rolled bread, shaved chicken, potatoes, pickled cucumber, and tahini sauce.

Background information:
The shawerma chicken is the key ingredient in the wrap. Shawerma chicken is prepared by stacking blocks of chicken meat and fat on a spit (a long rotating stick). Olive oil or sunflower oil is soaked into the chicken first. The block of meat is then roasted slowly over heat. As this is a local restaurant, the chicken must surely be coming from the poultry farm.

Bottled mineral water
Composition (in mg/litre): Calcium (3.4), Magnesium (1.9), Sodium (10), Potassium (0.2), Bicarbonates (27), Suplhates (19), Nitrate (0.4), Chloride (47), pH (7.8)

Delivery:

The shawerma is home delivered. As the picture suggests, half a litre   of fuel is consumed while delivering my final meal of the day. When I phone the restaurant for delivery, synthetic rubber is used from fossil fuels in wire and cable insulation.

As mentioned earlier, Dubai does not have any streams or rivers for fresh water. However, across the U.A.E border, Oman hold some of the most beautiful mountains in the Middle East. Masafi mineral water comes from the Hajar mountains in north-eastern Oman. While there isn’t any fossil fuels in the water itself, fossil fuels were used in the delivery and distribution of the water. The delivery of water from the Hajar mountains to the warehouse in Dubai is approximately 344 km. In other words, approximately 50 litres of oil is consumed every delivery.

 Conclusion:

As Manning stated, “those who model our planet as an organism do so on the basis that the appears to breathe.” So far, I have indicated that with every bite I eat, and with every sip I swallow, I consume oil. Our world is so dependent on oil for our most basic necessities. As we continue eating and drinking to survive, our planet is dying.

This study is based of a 24 hour diet. What if I multiplied this number by 365 days? What if I multiplied this diet by the number of people living in the Middle East?

Or worse, imagine I multiply this number by the population of mankind?
