The Curriculum Change for the 21st Century: Visual Culture in Art Education by Kerry Freedman and Patricia Stuhr goes into great detail about the importance of integrating the complex visual culture of the current times into curriculum. This article is quite dense and makes solid points about the importance of educators adapting to our rapidly expanding visual culture. The first questions arose as I considered when this article was written, and I couldn’t help to think about how many more factors there are now in 2018 regarding involving visual culture in curriculum. In actuality, many aspects of visual culture and technology have advanced so much since this was written. This, in fact, accentuates it’s dire importance. For instance, there is no mention of prominent technologies such as Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and so on, all of which our students already know more about than us educators if we do not make a significant effort to catch up!
