{"id":510,"date":"2011-08-24T13:41:08","date_gmt":"2011-08-24T21:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/wikigarden\/?p=510"},"modified":"2011-08-24T13:41:08","modified_gmt":"2011-08-24T21:41:08","slug":"cite-this-ubc-wiki-page","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/open\/2011\/08\/24\/cite-this-ubc-wiki-page\/","title":{"rendered":"Cite this UBC Wiki page"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-511 alignright\" title=\"Cite this page\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/open\/files\/2011\/08\/Screen-shot-2011-08-24-at-2.32.02-PM-300x120.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"120\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/open\/files\/2011\/08\/Screen-shot-2011-08-24-at-2.32.02-PM-300x120.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/open\/files\/2011\/08\/Screen-shot-2011-08-24-at-2.32.02-PM.png 775w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>We&#8217;ve added a new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediawiki.org\/wiki\/Extension:Cite\/Special:Cite.php\">extension<\/a> on the UBC Wiki which creates citations in a variety of different formats for any page.<\/p>\n<p>To use it, look for a new link called &#8220;Cite this page&#8221; under the toolbox in the left-side column. \u00a0Clicking on the link will take you to a <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.ubc.ca\/Special:Cite\">Special:Cite<\/a> page which automatically generates citations for the page in a variety of formats. \u00a0You can then copy a formatted citation and paste it where ever you like (into a paper, report, citation management software, etc).<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s an <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.ubc.ca\/index.php?title=Special:Cite&amp;page=UBC_Twitter_Accounts&amp;id=109793\">example of it in action<\/a> for the <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.ubc.ca\/UBC_Twitter_Accounts\">UBC Twitter Accounts Page<\/a>. \u00a0One interesting thing to note is that the hyperlinks in the citations do not go directly to the live page, but instead point to the &#8220;current revision&#8221; from the page history. \u00a0Thus, when people follow the link in your citation, they&#8217;ll see same version of the article as you saw it when you cited it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve added a new extension on the UBC Wiki which creates citations in a variety of different formats for any page.
