Teaching

I have had the opportunity to teach two undergraduate courses and one continuing studies class, as well as carried out duties as teaching assistant for a number of courses over the years.

As a feminist anthropologist, I seek in my teaching to use an empathetic ethnographic lens to carry out a radical humanizing project where exotic alterities and inequality-blind stances are effectively challenged. As instructor, I seek to apply anti-racist and feminist principles to promote social change from within the classroom.

SOCI/ANTH 480 Urban Ethnographic Field School

Department of Sociology, University of British Columbia

In the summer of 2015, I co-taught a six-week hands-on ethnographic and qualitative research field school to fourth-year anthropology and sociology students. The field school is carried out in partnership with UBC Learning Community located in the downtown eastside of Vancouver. Each student is placed in a community organization to put in practice the skills learned in the classroom while reciprocating with practical projects arranged under a service learning pedagogical model.

Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Simon Fraser University
