We set up in a main room of the Greenhow Museum, in\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">which we were able to discuss our project with passing museum patrons, and glance around at the artifacts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-131 alignleft\" style=\"line-height: 1.5;\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/orhdp\/files\/2017\/08\/20170619_095456_HDR_Film2-300x227.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"265\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/orhdp\/files\/2017\/08\/20170619_095456_HDR_Film2-300x227.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/orhdp\/files\/2017\/08\/20170619_095456_HDR_Film2-768x582.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/orhdp\/files\/2017\/08\/20170619_095456_HDR_Film2-1024x776.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/orhdp\/files\/2017\/08\/20170619_095456_HDR_Film2-620x470.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 265px) 100vw, 265px\" \/>We worked together on scanning the Ranch&#8217;s collection of magic lantern slides: glass projection slides from the early 20th century. Though\u00a0most slides had cardboard borders that prevented the glass from scraping our scanners, protective sheets had to be used for some of the more deteriorated slides. The slides mostly contained\u00a0World\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">War I illustrations, photographs of Ireland, England, Egypt, an English Royal visit to India, and scenes from the B<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">ible. Despite no local photography, it was an impressive collection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">The slides required multiple\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">scans, one for the reflect<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">ive border, one for the transparent image, in\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">the end it amounted to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">over 650 scans, a grand total of 395 objects.\u00a0<\/span>631 more images and the\u00a0associated data were migrated from the Museum&#8217;s\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">computer. Many of these were the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">photographs and textual documents of the O&#8217;Keefes, noting\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">other historic families of the Okanagan Valley.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\"><br \/>\nNaturally, lunch breaks were spent wandering the ranch, so I got to make friends with some baby goats.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"post-excerpt\">The Historic O&#8217;Keefe Ranch outside of Vernon was the second location for on-site collection.
