{"id":270,"date":"2017-07-04T14:31:01","date_gmt":"2017-07-04T21:31:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/orientation2017\/?page_id=270"},"modified":"2017-07-04T14:31:01","modified_gmt":"2017-07-04T21:31:01","slug":"career-services-office-cso","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/orientation2017\/career-services-office-cso\/","title":{"rendered":"Career Services Office (CSO)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0in 0in 7.5pt .5in;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Welcome Class of 2020!<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0in 0in 7.5pt .5in;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Allard Law\u2019s Career Services Office (CSO) provides career-focused services and resources to approximately 600 JD students, 200 graduate students, and Allard Law alumni.\u00a0 We also provides a connection to the broader legal community via recruitment initiatives, networking opportunities, and educational events and panels. The CSO is staffed by three non-practicing lawyers (Chira, Jenn, and Tracy), an Administrative Assistant (Loretta), and a second year JD Student Assistant (Cate).\u00a0 We\u2019re open year-round, M-F, 8:30am-4:30pm.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: .5in; background: white;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">While the CSO does not find students jobs (wouldn\u2019t that be nice?!), we do provide them with proven tools, strategies, training, and support to identify and achieve their individual career goals, including securing articling positions, clerkships, summer positions, part-time work during law school, and permanent employment in legal and law-adjacent roles.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0in 0in 7.5pt .5in;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Want to know more about what we do?\u00a0 Visit our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allard.ubc.ca\/career-services\"><span style=\"color: windowtext;\">website<\/span><\/a>, or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allard.ubc.ca\/career-services-team-contact-information\"><span style=\"color: windowtext;\">contact us<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 But the CSO\u2019s biggest recommendation for the Class of 2020 is to not spend too much time thinking about jobs just yet. Seriously. Instead, reflect on what\u2019s brought you to law school and your career goals. Also continue to pursue all of the diverse non-law things that interest you.
