WHEN TRAVELLING GO OUT TO SEA<\/span> Imagen: \u00a0https:\/\/hornbyisland.com\/about-hornby\/<\/p><\/blockquote>\n This photo was taken by my friend of me on a paddle board off of Hornby Island, a small island off of Vancouver Island. The poem remined me of my travels this summer, as I had the priviledge to spend much time at sea.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The island is in the tradititional territory of the K\u2019\u00f3moks First Nations, who initially named the island Ja-dai-aich. For Alen and the day <\/span>
she stepped foot into this life<\/span>
When traveling, my girl, go out to sea,<\/span>
always keep Wenteyao in your heart.<\/span>
The journey is your destination.<\/span>
Do not fear <\/span>Kanillo<\/span>, <\/span>Kalkus<\/span> and <\/span>Anchimallenes<\/span>;<\/span>
you will never find such spirits <\/span>
unless your soul puts them in your path.<\/span>
I wish, <\/span>Alen<\/span>, that your path be long.<\/span>
Stop<\/span>
in <\/span>Pucatriwe<\/span>, <\/span>Choroy<\/span>
Triague<\/span>.<\/span>
Collect, like your ancestors, <\/span>rulamas<\/span>
lunfo<\/span> and algae above all else,<\/span>
all types of algae.<\/span>
With the <\/span>shumpall<\/span> of <\/span>Caleta Manzano<\/span>
share your mother’s sweet songs.<\/span>
But don’t rush your trip at all,<\/span>
it will be better the more rivers you cross.<\/span>
I pray, my little one, that your horse does not move <\/span>
clumsily.<\/span>
Stop your voyage in the <\/span>catrihues<\/span>.<\/span>
Behind a blue sky they will speak to you in hushed <\/span>
voices.<\/span>
And if you find the island <\/span>
the old man has not deceived you.<\/span>
Beautiful, how you got to it, you will know<\/span>
of the place<\/span>
where the birds go<\/span>
