Crowdfunding makes the Internet a better place.

With all the negativity that we can find spread all over the internet these days, there are things that make it seem not so bad. With all the negative events that occur in society, crowdfunding is a way that society is able to tackle these things. Crowdfunding is changing the way that the world can give back. Sites like, Kickstarter, GoFundMe, and, Indiegogo are just several of many that are responsible for the change in our world. Now one may struggle with choosing between these sites, but luckily for us, they provide their mission statements and what kind of demographic they are aiming towards. Essentially, making it easier to receive funds from individuals who are interested in your product and/or service.
One of the many tragic things to happen to society includes the mass shooting that happened recently in Las Vegas on the night of October 1st, 2o17. With a

total of 546 injured and 58 people killed, it was indeed one of the most fatal shootings in history. People across the world were working towards supporting and helping the victims of the shooting. Of those people, Casey Neistat, a YouTuber, used his power of exposure on the internet to share his fundraiser as well as Steve Sisolak’s. Casey was able to fund $250,000 within 48 hours to donate directly towards Sisolak’s fundraiser. As of October 15th, 2017, Sisolak has been able to raise $10,790,098 in 12 days. Combined with Neistat’s fundraiser, they were able to raise just under $11.1 million dollars with plenty of time left to raise more money. It is at times like these when we see how many kind people there are in the world that are able to help people they have never met before.

Although, what would the internet be without individuals that try to exploit these crowdfunding websites? Some individuals create fundraisers on the websites, claiming to be victims of attacks or natural disasters. A woman in 2015, claimed to be a victim of the Boston Marathon Bombing. Nearing the end of her fraudulent spree, she had neared $40,000 in cash from donors. This is also just one of many cases where individuals have attempted to exploit crowdfunding websites for their own good. However, at the end of the day, the internet is able to come together to pull down these people that attempt to steal peoples money.
The internet is an amazing place because of it’s ability to spread awareness over social problems faster than a wildfire. Once the community of the internet comes together to work towards a common goal, there can be nothing close to the workforce that the internet is capable of creating.
