Personality Trait Scores – Week 2
Machiavellian: 21 – low
Self-monitoring: 53 – high
Emotional Intelligence: 84 – high
Narcissism: 19 – medium
To have a high Machiavellian score means that the individual would be cunning, scheming, and unscrupulous, especially in politics or in advancing one’s career. By scoring low in this category I feel it affects my ability to work with others in a positive way because I do not undermine those I am working with and try to the best of my ability to be fair.
Having a high self-monitoring score means that I am able to regulate my behaviour to accommodate social situations. I feel that this is a beneficial attribute to have when working with groups because it allows me to appropriately and professionally under different circumstances.
Scoring high for emotional intelligence has some of the same benefits as self-monitoring. Having a high emotional intelligence allows me to be aware of, control, and express my emotions, and to handle relationships with empathy. Having the capacity to do these things allows me to have control over my emotions and not let them control my actions, and to develop genuine relationships with my group members.
Scoring medium on narcissism is an attribute that could potentially hinder my ability to work in a group. When someone is narcissistic, they have excessive interest in themselves and can come across as self-centred or self-absorbed. If I were to display any of these attributes while working in a group it could be damaging because I may have my own best interests rather than the groups, and it may damage the relationships I had with group members because they would not enjoy being around me because of such attitudes.
