Typically, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hyperlink\" target=\"_blank\">hyperlinks<\/a>\u00a0can be identified by text that is in a different colour or underlined.<\/p>\n<p>Online learning content often\u00a0utilizes\u00a0hyperlinking to make\u00a0connections to other online information and website outside the course content.\u00a0From\u00a0a student perspective it can be\u00a0confusing to distinguish which hyperlinks are critical\u00a0to review\u00a0as part of the course and which ones are included as optional course links. Course designers can use a number of approaches\u00a0to minimize or eliminate that confusion.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>One method, often used by course designers, is to include heading titles to identify the optional readings. Some course designers use different formatting, or different styles to make sure the two categories of links are distinguishable.<\/p>\n<p>Another way to set apart the links which are important for the course and to make them more prominent\u00a0visually is to use <a href=\"http:\/\/embed.ly\/cards\" target=\"_blank\">Embedly\u00a0 cards<\/a> to create free &#8220;card&#8221; links in order &#8220;to engage your audience through rich media embeds. &#8221; The &#8220;cards&#8221; are eye catching, allow easy sharing via\u00a0social media channels, and very easy to create by copying the code into an HTML page or \u00a0WordPress, Tumblr, or Blogger websites using their plugins.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a couple of examples of Embedly cards.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"embedly-card\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/parm27\/category\/blog\/\">E-PORTFOLIO<\/a><br \/>\n<script src=\"\/\/cdn.embedly.com\/widgets\/platform.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"UTF-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h4><script src=\"\/\/cdn.embedly.com\/widgets\/platform.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"UTF-8\"><\/script><\/h4>\n<p><a class=\"embedly-card\" href=\"http:\/\/embed.ly\">Embedly makes your content more engaging and easier to share | Embedly<\/a><\/p>\n<h4><script src=\"\/\/cdn.embedly.com\/widgets\/platform.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"UTF-8\"><\/script><\/h4>\n\n<p>As you can see these &#8220;cards&#8221; include generated text and visual cues to provide more information about the linked web pages.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hyperlinking,\u00a0a critical feature of the internet, is frequently used in online educational content.
