The Mausoleum of Sa’di

Hi everyone,

Here, I found a very interesting link that includes great information and pictures about the mausoleum of Sa`di.

Sa’di, a keen traveler and famous Gnostic, was a known poet of the 7th century AH. he was born in Shiraz and passed away between the years 695-691 AH. In 1942, the present building was constructed by the Association for National Arts and the tomb of Sa’di was placed in an octagonal mausoleum with high dome and interesting tile works.

Bazar VakiL

hello everyone,

here is a paragraph about Bazar-e Vakil in Shiraz. And I have added some pictures. It is worth a look 🙂

It is believed that the Zand monarch, after seeing the ancient Bazar dating from the time of Shah Abbas, laid out the design of the long finely-planned Bazar in Shiraz, which is one of the best of the late Vakil’s monuments. It extends from near the Esfahan Gate to where the Bazars of the old city of Shiraz begin, and it comprises arched alcoves with wide platforms in between, and seventy-four high and well-proportioned arches sustaining the roof, and there is a high domed crossing, where the east and west bazars diverge from the main bazar. Several of the main arches, and a number of intervening alcoves of the Vakil Bazar, which were used as shops, were demolished when the Zand Avenue was extended eastwards.

I also have a recipe of my favorite persian cookie for those of you who LOVE cooking just like I do 😉

Walnut Cookie:

Walnut Cookie

Main Ingredients:

Egg Yolks: 4 (extra large)
Sugar: 1/2 cup
Vanilla: 1/4 tsp (extract or powder)
Walnuts: 3+1/2 cups, coarsely chopped
Lemon Rind: 1/4 tsp (from one lemon, optional)

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 325 F.

2. Beat egg yolks and sugar until very thick and plain color, for about 5 minutes.

3. Stir in the vanilla, chopped walnuts and lemon rind (optional) into the yolk mixture.

4. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place small mounds (about 1 tbsp) of the batter on to the parchment-lined baking sheet 2 inches apart.

5. Bake for 10 minute or until cookies are dry and firm.

6. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for about 5-10 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool completely.
