Welcome to the my UBC teacher candidate’s electronic portfolio (e-folio).

You are cordially invited to browse through a collection of artifacts gathered from my university coursework and classroom practicum. It has been carefully chosen to correspond with the BC Ministry Standards for Educators, governed by the BC Teacher Regulation Branch.

Reference from the extended practicum — Standards #1, 2, 4, 5 & 6
1. Educators value and care for all students and act in their best interests.
2. Educators are role models who act ethically and honestly.
4. Educators value the involvement and support of parents, guardians, families and communicates in schools.
5. Educators implement effective practices in areas of planning, instruction, assessment, evaluation and reporting.
6. Educators have a broad knowledge base and understand the subject areas they teach.

On my top banners, I posted some of the work of my Kindergarten and Grade 2 students. Their “Eureka” moments inspired me to experience learning through their perspective. As a teacher candidate, I was supervised to work with young children at stations and communicate with their parents closely in my 2-week Kindergarten practicum. During my extended Grade 2 practicum, I was enriched by numerous opportunities to explore my teaching style in all academic subjects (including music) and assist in school-wide events, such as Family Math Night and Track-and-Field. In a faith-based environment, I was able to prepare students with my school advisor for their First Communion. For me, it was such an unforgettable experience to teach in the primary years!

Last but not least, I would like to take this valuable opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to my faculty and school advisors for their immense support. Their guidance helped me to solve many problems that beginning teachers encounter daily in their practices. I would like to sincerely thank my UBC instructors for imparting their knowledge and experiences, as well as my family for giving me the unconditional love to work through many sleepless nights and busy weekends of teaching preparation.

Thank you and looking forward to sharing my journey of classroom teaching with you.

Yours faithfully,
Patricia Chan
