Who am I?

I am a teacher candidate graduated from the University of British Columbia. I have received my teacher training specialized in elementary education. I completed my pre-education degree in the areas of Psychology (major) and Economics (minor).

I was born in Hong Kong. I immigrated to Canada and continued with my secondary education in BC. I can speak, read and write Chinese (Cantonese & Mandarin) and French.

My hobbies are swimming, hiking, playing piano, choral singing, scrapbooking, baking and traveling. For community outreach, I volunteer to teach in the preschool and the Sunday school where my children currently attend.

What are the areas of interest for me to teach in the elementary grades?

ACADEMIC
My areas of interest are early childhood development (ECE), special needs and counseling. I am knowledgeable to integrate scientific theories from my psychology coursework into classroom teaching. In particular, the courses in developmental psychology equipped me with the latest research to assist in the development of children’s cognitive, social and emotional growth for different age groups.

WORK-RELATED EXPERIENCES
My previous work experiences were piano teaching and behavioral intervention. I primarily worked with children aged from 3 to 12. I taught them piano at their homes, including students with special needs. Consulting with Registered Psychologist, Behavioral Consultants, Speech Pathologists, Music Therapists and Occupational Therapists, I provided behavioural therapy to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome and ADHD at daycare and community centers in Vancouver, Burnaby and North Vancouver. These work experiences allowed me to work closely with the parents on how to support them in the exploration of school and community resources.
