yellow wax bells
Hydrangeaceae
list 7.11
- Perennial
- Native to Korea and Japan (Korean plant larger than the Japanese one – important to know which one you are getting).
- Zone 5
- Distinctive deeply toothed opposite leaves form a thick canopy.
- Yellow bell flowers on stems extending well clear of foliage. Up to 2 m (Korean) or 1.5 m (Japanese) tall.
- Full to part shade. Medium moisture.
- Flowers through July.
- A very unusual looking, but attractive plant. Somewhat architectural in the way it forms a solid mass of clean, distinctive foliage. Great for a shady woodland garden. Needs a reasonably sized massing for full effect.
