Grey-green. Deep tap root. Fast growing.<\/li>\n<li>Thistle-like flowers \u2013 blue-purple above a bulbous bract.<\/li>\n<li>Progenitor of the artichoke.<\/li>\n<li>Edible petioles when young (like celery).<\/li>\n<li>Full sun. Drought tolerant.<\/li>\n<li>A striking, architectural plant. Loved by kids. Use in a vegetable garden or as a specimen.
